As part of the Coatings-UA coating conference, the chief technologist of Vanmix delivered a report on the topic "Scientific and technical solutions for improving the properties of dry construction mixtures", during which the specialist spoke about our own research together with the Ukrainian State Chemical and Technological University, which was aimed at to find solutions to the problem of the lack of raw materials for the synthesis of organic compounds necessary for the production of construction mixtures.

Research on ways to improve the properties of dry construction mixes from Vanmix

Today, due to the difficult circumstances in our country, the military invasion and all its consequences, there is a certain shortage of raw materials, chemicals, etc. on the market. The problem of limited reserves of traditional minerals leads to the idea of developing new plasticizers, new surface-active compounds, complexing compounds.

Within the framework of this issue, Vanmix specialists conducted a study, the object of which is the modification of dry construction mixtures based on cement compositions synthesized with oils of estermaleinates of fatty acid amides, as the main replacement for plasticizing raw materials and multifunctional classifying additives. At the same time, the aim of the work was to study the influence of synthesized salts on the physical and mechanical operational properties of dry cement-based construction mixtures. In the course of the study, estermaleinate salts of fatty acid amides, which were synthesized in the laboratory of the University of Chemical Technology, were used. Substances in the form of a highly viscous liquid from light yellow to yellow-brown color were synthesized and their influence on the properties of cement screed and glue for aerated concrete blocks was investigated, which we studied by adding a 50% aqueous solution of these substances to standard recipes .

 

Research results

The study was carried out as follows: when closing solutions, salts were introduced during work and pouring, forming samples, that is, when adding to water, specialists added a suitable plasticizer, the mixture was mixed and poured into special forms, after which the material was removed and continued to be tested for properties and their change.

Effect on rheological properties : Evaluating the effect of fatty acid amides on the rheological properties of dry construction mixtures, the following was found: when adding the material, depending on the percentage amount from 0.1% to 0.5%, there is a significant increase in the spreading of the mixture, the mass becomes more mobile.

Effect on shear stress: Evaluating the parameter, depending on the shear rate, the following results were obtained: when adding salts, the solutions of dry building mixes behave as delatant liquids, i.e. a liquid in which the shear stress increases when the shear rate increases, i.e. it is a highly concentrated cement mortar.

Effect on physical and mechanical properties : After pouring the samples, the effect on physical and mechanical properties was tested. We saw that after three days there was an increase in flexural strength depending on the percentage of addition, with the best results being seen at 0.4% and the dynamics of potassium salts being more active and increasing the physical properties more. After seven days, we see an increase in flexural strength in the aerated concrete adhesive. After 28 days, physico-mechanical properties were also evaluated, and an increase in strength and activation of the action of additives were revealed.

Effect on viscosity, adhesion, etc .: The viscosity of solutions of salts of estermaleinates of fatty acid amides is affected as follows: spreading of the solution and increasing the open time for working with the solution. The effect of plasticizers on solutions of dry construction mixtures is as follows: with the addition of a plasticizer, we get a material that holds water, which in turn gives masters the opportunity to work more efficiently with the mixture due to improved open time values. Evaluating the bond strength parameter with the concrete base, we found that the addition of plasticizer significantly moistens and contributes to an increase in adhesion by almost 10%. Also, our specialists evaluated the impact on the composition, i.e. construction, and found corresponding changes in the structure of plasticizer addition and fluctuations in the relevant zone.

Among the ways to improve the quality of dry construction mixtures in conditions of shortage of raw materials, Vanmix professionals proposed the use of potassium salts of amide fatty acids and proposed formulations using the percentage of plasticizers and a formulation for aerated concrete block glue.

 

Conclusions

Presenting a report on the key aspects of the use of technologies to optimize the production and improve the quality of dry construction mixes in today's difficult conditions, Vanmix's chief technologist answered questions from colleagues about our multifunctional salt additives to construction mixes, which perform, for example, the functions of a hydrophobizer and plasticizer, and talked about our company's plans for the future development of an additive in the form of a powder, that is, a mineral impregnated with a concentrate in the composition of ready-made building mixtures.
